Point counterpoint – a practical guide to punctuation

This is designed as a counterpart to the wealth of information and advice available on the translator’s technological toolkit and as a reminder of the importance to the translator of good writing in the target language.

Not only do translation students seek guidance on punctuation, but so too do both new and established translators at practical translation workshops.

Karin Band and Sue Young both have extensive experience of working with students and translators in this area and would like to make a contribution to ITI’s 21st anniversary conference by providing examples of good and bad punctuation and by stressing the importance of good punctuation to good writing. The emphasis will be on practical, constructive advice in relation to both US and British English usage in particular, and we would welcome comments and contributions from participants.
