Francisco Aviñó
Francisco Aviñó has been a practicing translator and interpreter for over 20 years. He is an Intérprete Jurado and specializes in court interpreting and technical translation in the fields of the Law and the Visual Arts. He has been president of APETI - Asociación Profesional Española de Traductores e Intérpretes (the Spanish Professional Association of Translators and Interpreters)- since 1997. During this period he has devoted his efforts to preparing the longest established professional translation and interpreting institution in Spain, which has represented translators and interpreters' interests since 1954, to face up to the challenges of the 21st century. Under his direction, APETI has set out the basis and mechanisms for the practice of translation and interpreting as a new kind of liberal profession, one that reflects the purely intellectual and multidisciplinary nature of the activity and that responds to the ethical demands it places upon its practitioners.
