Dr Joy Burrough – Unclogged English
Joy Burrough-Boenisch, originally a geographer, learnt to edit in Sabah and Australia. From 1976 to 2005 she lived in the Netherlands, working as an authors' editor and translator (Dutch to English) for academics and scientists. Her interest in second language interference and non-native English led her to help found SENSE (Society of English-Native-Speaking Editors in the Netherlands) and to do a doctorate in applied linguistics, on Dutch scientific English. She has written numerous articles for fellow editors and translators, and a book (Righting English that's gone Dutch). She also gives workshops on editing. Since 2006 she and her company Unclogged English (www.unclogged.co.uk) have been based in Oxfordshire.
