The National register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) is the UK’s independent voluntary regulator of professional interpreters working in the public services. We maintain the largest public database of accredited interpreters in the UK (the ‘National Register’) which is free to access and searchable online. We set standards for education, training and practice and provide the industry standard Code of Professional Conduct. NRPSI provides a free complaints process for alleged breaches of the Code. Organisations such as the Metropolitan Police and the Law Society specify that interpreters should only be drawn from those on the National Register.
For public services users, the Register enables you to find an interpreter that is not only qualified and accredited, but that can be held accountable should their conduct or competence fall below the high standards expected of a Registered Public Service Interpreters (RPSI). Using an unregistered interpreter means there is a risk of using someone who is unqualified and not competent for the exacting demands of public service interpreting.
