RSI (Remote Simultaneous Interpreting): a user perspective of cloud-based interpreting platforms

What is it like to interpret remotely from your home office? How do some of the new platforms work, what hardware and physical set-up is required? Do you need any specific software? What are the potential impacts? Pros and cons? Jan has trialled some of the platforms available for cloud-based simultaneous interpreting and would like to share his experience with them. The use of this new technology is likely to increase, so Jan's impressions might help the necessary discussion amongst the interpreting community on the benefits and potential pitfalls of adding the service to your offer.

Jan is a Manchester-based German conference and business interpreter. In a previous life, he was an MFL teacher, but he has been a freelance interpreter since 2010, working mainly in the private conference market across Europe.
