Meet the delegates - Mathilde Malas (Berlin, Germany)

Hello everyone,

My name is Mathilde Malas, I’m writing from sunny (and cold) Berlin, Germany, where I work as a freelance translator and interpreter. I originally come from Lower Normandy, the French region of cider and very smelly cheese.

I work from English and German into French, and my specialist areas are environment (mainly marine biodiversity and wildlife conservation) and healthcare (mainly maternity and child care and infectious diseases).

I really look forward to attending my first ITI Conference and to going back to northern England, where I studied conference interpreting and translation a few years ago at the University of Leeds. In his speech on the ITI when I was still at university, Charles Rothwell convinced me of the value of professional associations. It has been very helpful to exchange experiences with colleagues from different ITI networks on a regular basis since I started as a freelancer.

More recently, I joined the committee of the ITI International Network, and I can’t wait to meet some of the members at the get-together we will organise during the conference! I look forward to learning from others at “Buddies welcome Newbies”, exploring Newcastle, sightseeing, and of course finally meeting colleagues in person!
