Hi, I’m Tanja from Hamburg, Germany. I translate from English and French
into German, mainly in the medical field. I work preferably with agencies –
I know that’s not what they teach you in business development seminars (at
least not the ones I’ve been to), but in 15 years of freelancing it’s been
my experience that it’s just a matter of preference and ‘working style’ and
neither a difference in the quality of work nor in bottom-line profit.

Besides the ‘free’ bit in freelance I also enjoy all the other aspects of
being self-employed, from making the strategic decisions to testing new
software, including ‘outsourcing’ whatever I don’t like to do (like taxes).

I look forward to discussing all of these and any other aspects of life,
professional and otherwise, with fellow translators from all over the world,
especially since this is only my second industry event outside Germany and
my first with the ITI.
