Have you considered sharing an apartment near the venue? There is quite large choice of short term rentals (including some penthouse apartments) on the Quayside, on both the Gateshead and the Newcastle side, via AirBnB, http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk and similar sites.

Remember that the accommodation booking system on our website allows you to cancel right up to the day before arrival. This means that if in the meantime you find friends to share an apartment with, you still can.
